The version that opened in theaters in the United States on March 19, 2004 and introduced Zack Snyder to the world. It's 100 minutes of dry rhythm, with the violence trimmed to fit the R rating. It was what became a phenomenon, but it's not what the director considers ready.

It's the version that Snyder signs. The director himself describes this cut as longer, bloodier and more character-driven than the movie cut. Universal released it on DVD, Blu-ray and digital, with commentary by him and producer Eric Newman. Today this is the version that runs on Prime Video in the United States.
