The montage that Warner took to theaters on March 6, 2009, with 162 minutes. It is the shortest of the three and the only one without the Black Freighter. It was made to fit into a cinema session, not to fit into the comic.

It came out on July 21, 2009 with 186 minutes, 24 more than the cinema version. What comes back is character and action material that had been trimmed in the editing room. It is the cut that critics tend to treat as superior to the cinema cut.

It's 215 minutes and it's the version most similar to the comic. The director's cut comes back in its entirety and, on top of it, the animation Tales of the Black Freighter is interspersed in the narrative, plus the newsstand scenes that tie everything together. If you want Alan Moore's Watchmen on film, this is it. Today it is on HBO Max in the United States and Prime Video in Japan.
