Director's Sucker Punch coming? Snyder says it's on the agenda

Fifteen years later, the director’s cut of Sucker Punch lives on. And the reason it hasn’t left yet is more bureaucratic than you imagine.

Zack Snyder spoke about this on Happy Sad Confused, journalist Josh Horowitz’s podcast, in an interview recorded at the Toronto Film Festival and published on September 17, 2026. Josh took advantage of 20 years of 300 to make the director open the entire drawer of projects. There was a lot of stuff in there.

Starting with what fans charge most. Sucker Punch came out in 2011, reassembled by the studio, and Snyder has never hidden the fact that his version is different. He said that every time he calls Warner asking to release it, he hears the same explanation: he has to wait for certain licenses to expire, because releasing the new cut would devalue the version that someone already bought to show. He himself distrusts the excuse. But his position has not changed.

The most unexpected project is The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand’s novel about an architect who refuses to bend. It became a limited series of 12 episodes, he has been writing since 2018 and already has 10 ready, using as a guide the original 310-page script that the author herself wrote for the 1949 film. He sold the series to two companies. The two called it quits a week later. For him, this just proves that it’s worth doing.

In the rest of the queue: the UFC film waits for the league to settle into its new home, Paramount, and there is a project that touches on the myth of King Arthur, his old passion for Excalibur.
