Snyder says what's missing from Rebel Moon 3

Is Rebel Moon 3 coming out? Zack Snyder was asked this at the Toronto Film Festival, and the answer began with “I don’t know”. But he didn’t stop there. In the interview with the website The Direct, which came out on video on September 25th, he said what could bring the saga back: the director’s cuts.

For those who just dropped it: Rebel Moon is the space opera that Snyder made for Netflix, in two parts. Part 1, The Fire Girl, premiered in December 2023, and Part 2, The Scar Marker, in April 2024, both in the lighter version, rated PG-13 in the United States. On August 2, 2024, the director’s cuts came, rated R and much longer: Goblet of Blood, with 204 minutes, and Curse of Forgiveness, with 173.

And that’s what Snyder is betting on.

I don’t know… I made those, the director’s cuts of the movies… as those maybe, like, get a little bit more popular and sort of, like, get discovered… a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one.

Translation: the ball is in the public’s court. And there’s no shortage of stories to tell. Last year Kurt Johnstad, who wrote Rebel Moon with Snyder, told a podcast that they already had detailed outlines for films 3, 4, 5 and 6, and that Snyder had the entire world planned out.

Netflix hasn’t announced anything, and today part 3 is not greenlit. But Snyder has already seen a director’s cut change everything once. In 2021, it was the insistence of the fans that took his Justice League out of the drawer and put it on air.

So the message is simple. The two director’s cuts are on Netflix as separate titles, and the details for each film here on the website show where to watch in each country: Part 1 and Part 2. If Netflix decides what we watch, it can make noise the way it listens.
