After the fight over Justice League, a Warner executive, who has left there today, told Zack Snyder the phrase that the fan has been waiting to hear since 2017. He told Variety the scene.
A Warner executive supported Zack Snyder. The director recounted the scene in an interview with Variety published on September 15, recorded at the Toronto Film Festival, the morning after the premiere of The Last Photograph.
To understand the weight of this, go back a little. In May 2017, in the middle of post-production on Justice League, Snyder stepped away from the film after a family tragedy. Warner called Joss Whedon, who rewrote and reshot much of the story. The version that premiered in November of that year was not his, it just had his name in the credits. Then came the movement, the hashtag, and in March 2021 Snyder’s League came out with four hours.
In Variety he told what happened after all that. He met with an executive at Warner, who is no longer there, and declined to give his name. And you heard it here.
You were right about everything.
Zack Snyder, repeating what he heard from a former Warner executive, to Variety, interview published on 09/15/2026
The executive added: we fought with you, and in the end you were right. The journalist wanted to know exactly what. Snyder responded that it was about his entire vision for the DC universe and his way of making films.
And then he does something that says a lot about the guy. He made it clear that he was talking about the board of directors at that time, which is no longer there. He even explained their side: they had a brand worth a fortune in their hands, everyone’s job depended on it being successful, and they thought they had given everything into the hands of a madman. So, in his words, what happened to his family may have seemed to them like a window to take the film back. And he himself warned that it would sound horrible.
He also said that the launch of the 2017 version was rock bottom. He had lost his daughter and, at the same time, his name was on a film he didn’t make. What saved him was finishing the League his way. Today, according to him, you can’t walk down the street without someone stopping to thank you for that film.
For us, this phrase from the executive is worth more than a lot of criticism. Because it comes from within, from those on the other side of the table. But the Snyder fan didn’t need all that time to reach that conclusion. He said this in November 2017, in a petition, and hasn’t stopped since.
